Changing the Narrative: Translation as Cultural and Political Activism

Sunday, April 26 at 5:00 PM

Goethe-Institut New York

30 Irving Place, New York, NY 10003

The festival’s signature translation event returns to explore how translation can refine and even redefine dominant historical and socio-political narratives. Our six translators will address writing in two languages, self-translation and narratives of self, views of Germany from the inside and out, translation as a diplomatic or a disruptive tool, and how the politico-literary tightrope of translated literature walks over contested ideas of national identity.

Featuring: Isabel Fargo Cole and Peter Wortsman; Mary Ann Newman and Jennifer Croft; Samantha Schnee and Eliza Griswold. Moderated by festival co-curators Alta L. Price and Tess Lewis.

The event is free of charge and in English. RSVPs are required due to limited seating.
